Usually, in industry, the set and location would be based off the analysis of the script and characters within it, however because the character is based off the set, I have more scope for background of the character but also have to be aware about the fact that an audience should understand the set even without any characters placed within it. Her facial expressions should show her to be quite sad if it were to be filmed.
The information cards next to the artwork and sculpture speak directly to her rather informing her of the artwork she is viewing.Īlthough it won't be possible to show every detail of that context, it is possible to show an eerie atmosphere coupled with an abstract sculpture that feels very personal to the character.įor research into what she may look like, I looked into a few films that base their themes on the idea of dreams, psychology and surrealism such as Donnie Darko, Inception, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Carrie. The colour palettes used for the clothes that the main characters wear are quite neutral and simple, so I decided that my character would wear very modern casual outfits that were mainly black and white in colour. Since I decided to transform my location into a room in a museum featuring melancholic surrealist work and an abstract sculpture, I decided to create a female character who is in a dreamlike state and feels that the artwork is speaking directly to her.
